'twas playing Rubicon earlier, and I think the differences in experience between my old monitor and the new one can be summed up thusly:

CRT: incredibly dark even with the brightness jacked up, the internal settings set to "really light" or so, and my room's lights turned off.

LCD: I can actually see things by default; also, HUD text is somewhat sharper. "Honk If You're An Underpaid Cyborg" was much easier to navigate this time.

...wow, you still had a CRT monitor? :o

Well, to be honest I'm not a good touchstone about this particular piece of technology... I think I was one of the first ones ever to get a LCD monitor -- usually I'm much slower in adopting new gadgets. This was even before the adoption of Euro currency, eeep!!!

It was so smaaaaaall and I gave nearly a montly income, haha. But there's a reason: I'm sensitive to flickering, enough to be able to detect any CRT frequency below 75/80hz, due to eye irritation and then headache. I was employed in a large office at the times, and my coworkers started to call me "70hz" for this reason.

Old/malfunctioning neon lights are my bane -_-

I try to go with this, too, but working in graphic design I have to upgrade hardware more often that I'd like. Also, the planned obsolescence annoys me to no end. At least I was able to give my old phone to my mother.
