I'm on Buzzly, or: dA done fucked up.

Here's my debut piece.

So, dA rolled out an update for notifications. It was not a good update. The new notif system is clunky, laggy, and a chore to deal with because, for SOME reason, "select all" wasn't carried over; what took two or three clicks at most now requires a fuckton as you delete each notif one-by-one, each usually requiring you to confirm the deletion first. It might seem like a minor thing to non-dA users, but trust me: it's FUCKING AWFUL. And this is coming from someone who's otherwise fine with Eclipse.

Meanwhile, Buzzly's been praised as the Dreamwidth to dA's LiveJournal: everything that was good about older iterations of dA, minus the unpopular decisions. You can even use subfolders right off the bat (unlike on dA where they're paywalled), which helps immensely with organization. Hopefully, it'll stick around longer than Sheezy.Art did--goddamn "dA competitors" that don't know how to run one and implode in five months, grumble curse mutter...

Am I leaving dA entirely? Not yet. But as I saw another person put it, that site has become Sunk Cost Fallacy incarnate, and I'm kinda worried that the next big update is gonna completely tank it. (Plus, it partnered with a notorious EnEffTee mill...that's never good.)


To anyone who hasn't dusted off their dA in a while (by which I mostly mean Juzo-kun, if you happen to see this): it probably ain't worth it. Consider the bee. 3/15/22 EDIT: WELP.

I'm just keeping DA as an archive (deleting all follows etc) and yep, the message system is bad. But I've seen worse -- the joy of working with programs/apps/etc from more than twenty years and this isn't my tipping point. To me DA jumped the shark years ago, when a lot of people I enjoyed to interact with went away (on Tumblr, then on Twitter/Discord/whatever everyone decided to go). I keep the gallery to have something with a datestamp on it to check if someones decides to do me dirty. My husband still resists, tho' -- but he's on Instagram too.

My rather non-existent output is not what I deem worthy of having a dedicated site. Unless that idea of Meta having Instagram/FB and the likes closing in Europe because we do actually have some privacy law I'll be mainly on Instagram (and Twitter, in lurk-and-occasionally-place-a-like mode) and after the move I'll work on a proper portfolio on a personal website. Behance too, maybe; but they're tainted by Enn-Eff-Tee and frankly I don't want to touch that stuff with a ten-meter pole.

Since I wrote this entry, dA's notifs have improved slightly, but it's still inferior to the old system (ex. still no "select all", only "mark all as read"). And for some reason, it won't just pull up my stats when I ask it to, so I dunno if Eclipse tanked my traffic like it did to others--but it seems like it's just the same fifteen or so people silently faving my art these days. (And the new notifs make it clear that my art's getting sorted into a number of collections full of fetish stuff...eeurgh.)

I see; looking forward to seeing your personal site when that goes up. (Never used Behance, but if they're doing EnEffTees, then it will remain "never")

...as someone who had a stint at developing some very similar thing, I can guess what kind of stuff there's under the hood on how the comment system work (and in this case, I'm hoping to be wrong because WHAT, or simply it clashes with my ads/script blockers so I've seen a messed up version from the beginning, haha!)

About Buzzly, I'm a bit concerned the fact that's not really trasparent about who is behind it. I got it's based in Mexico but other than that, no about page -- unless it's below some script I didn't whitelist. Anyway, they must have a massive influx of people, I noticed they have closed the new registrations.

Behance is just the portfolio-for-professionals site owned by Adobe, if you have an Adobe ID you have a space on Behance. I guess they see eneftees just "there's this thing, let's show we are hip and cool".

Hrm...I don't see any "about" page anywhere either, though maybe their socials or early staff posts go into more detail?

I see; guess turning Photoshop into a (very poor) subscription service wasn't enough for Adobe. >.>
