Escaflowne theory thing
Dec. 14th, 2018 05:47 pmThe Vision of Escaflowne is one of the few animes I've watched every single episode of (specifically the Bandai dub, back in high school). 'twas reading about it again and this idea regarding everyone's favourite unstable pyromaniac Dilandau popped into my head.
(Note: it's been a while since I re-watched Escaflowne, so this might need some adjustments...)
Short version: "Dilandau Albatou" was a real person who the Dilandau seen in-series was meant to recreate.
Longer version: About a hundred years or so ago, there lived a legendary knight whose deployment onto the field would always turn the tide in his kingdom's favour; while the common people held him in high regard, the nobility were painfully aware of the knight's true nature and kept him on a short leash--so short that many people didn't even know his name.
Not that Dilandau Albatou really minded--he was here to cut down the fledgling kingdom's enemies, not handle public relations.
Alas, not everything can last forever, and on the darkest night the kingdom had ever seen, Dilandau perished on the battlefield, with his few surviving squad members reporting that he'd died laughing.
Fast-forward to a few years after Dornkirk's arrival in Zaibach. His studies into Gaean history and manipulation of fate eventually lead him to the nigh-invincible knight of Asturia; personality risks aside, someone like Dilandau would be very useful for keeping the flies off Zaibach--and if it works, then the empire could claim all sorts of past heroes for itself by proxy. Dornkirk begins looking into ways of recreating the dead; however, it soon becomes apparent that without a good enough genetic match, none of the methods Dornkirk attempts will have any effect whatsoever.
Eventually, he finds that match in Celena Schezar.
