Mundane updates 2
Aug. 13th, 2019 07:30 pm* I had (well, technically still have) a LOT of Barbies when I was a kid, and in the present day they're kinda scattered all around the basement. One of my future projects may or may not be recovering as many accessories and articles of clothing as possible so that I can restore 'em.
The three I'm most interested in the moment are the Flying Hero trio, who are basically crosses between super-heroines and magical girls. Barbie and Kira, I'd already found and set aside ages ago; Teresa had to be dug out. See, our basement is a total disaster zone at the moment, and among other things, we've got a bunch of bins stacked against one wall, two rows deep. You wanna access any but the topmost bins, you gotta move them around (most of them are heavy)--and because there's limited space to do that, you also have to be able to climb.
Naturally, Teresa was in one of the bottom bins against the wall...and she was, and currently still is, missing her jumpsuit, kneepads, and shoes, because Younger Me didn't understand the importance of keeping all of a given figure's/doll's parts together. But hey, at least I could mark "find Teresa" off my mental list.
So, the three of them have been put in my room somewhere out of the way until I can find the rest of their clothes, and preferably some stands. Something I found out during the process of all this is that it's not just a few dolls whose rubber-band hair ties are disintegrating, it's ALL OF THEM; the trio originally had identical "ponytail and two braids" hairstyles, but the rubber bands done crumbled. So, I've tried giving 'em new ones; gonna have to redo Barbie's pathetic braid at some point.
* My late paternal grandmom sent me a ton of collector and "special edition" Barbies over the years; most of them are on high-up shelves in my room, but a few are still in the basement. After some talking with my parents, I was allowed to open two of the basement ones (one was a duplicate, the other wasn't): The Rose and the Empress of Emeralds. At the moment, they're lording over my headboard.
Both are lovely, though there was a...complication with The Rose. Namely, her legs were covered in this horrifying sticky goop, and even after using a magic eraser and soap 'n water, I'm not sure all of it's off. Plus, another frayed rubber band in her hair.
* In non-Barbie news, today I got my Nendoroid Kasen Kanesada, who's my seventh Touken Ranbu Nendo and second starter sword. The others I own are Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, Hotarumaru, Sayo Samonji, Juzumaru Tsunestugu, Nikkari Aoe, and Kashuu Kiyomitsu (in that acquisition order), with Hachisuka Kotetsu on pre-order. I don't play TR, but I really like the concept of sword boys, and they're the Nendos I've been most interested in besides Fate/Grand Order.
The other half of that order was "The Halo Effect" from Smart Pop, one of those unauthorized fan analysis books. What caught my attention when I learned of it through Google Books was that the "Cortana's up to something!" uber-theory made it in here (specifically in chapter 7; even Cortana's alleged finger-crossing at the end of Halo 2 gets highlighted). In fact, members of halo.bungie.org contributed to this book--the seventh chapter was written by Jillybean, and Finn handled the appendix.
(On the downside, one of the contributors was notorious shitlord Vox Day. Sigh.)
* Art stuff: got a survival AU dump in the works (length not yet determined). Unlike the vamp AU ones, I think I'll be doing most of the doodles directly in PS, because I am not always patient enough to erase all the little motes of dust the scanner picks up.
* Recent weird-dream highlight: "Juzo-kun was the primary artist for this obscure baseball game! Wait, has she ever even played baseball?"

Date: 2019-08-15 05:08 pm (UTC)Sad tidbit regarding the notorious person: he was in the music group that made Marathon2 and MaratonInf main screen music. Checking wikipedia I got that at least he wasn't in the groups the years M2 and mInf came out. I want to believe he's not even the slightest involved in a thing I like.
Oooh, can't wait :) regarding survival AU I had some idea and sketch about Leela and June (and my part of the trade!)
...the only time I ever drew something related to baseball was for a coworker that was into it. And Star Trek. So I drew a Klingon pitcher.

Funnily enough, I actually got it posted today. XD (And looking forward to both! :D)
Nice. XD In school, I played baseball about as well as any other sport, which was "not well".

...more than me, which is "not at all" :D (I never was a sport one, me).

Ooh! A Survival AU! Tycho looks like a bad ass punk. I love his outfit! Holly looks so cute! I like to learn more about her and John as well. I still don't want to meet Caliban in a dark alley.
Now all I can think about is that one epic Deep Space Nine episode in which everyone learns to play baseball in order to beat a ship crew of pompous Vulcans. I love the ending to that episode! ^_^

^^ And avoiding Caliban is for the best in any situation/timeline.
That makes me imagine the Rozies having to do the same; maybe Vince misses the first two pitches and the third time the ball comes around, he accidentally launches it into the stratosphere. XD
