Boy am I (still) glad I moved to DW

So, Verizon wants to sell tumblr after not only failing to monetize it but driving away roughly 30% of its users, and the most interested potential buyer at the moment is none other than PornHub. Yannow, that site that's owned by MindGeek, a company that's pure scum.

tumblr is in an even more precarious situation now, and there's two ways I see it ending:

1) MindGeek via PornHub acquires tumblr, which at minimum could drive away almost everyone who tried to stick around after the NSFW ban, 'cuz then PornHub will legally own their art. (At worst, well--let's say "toxic cultural shift") Or,

2) No one buys tumblr; Verizon decides to scrub its hands of the platform and delete everything.

Neither is acceptable, and while there's apparently been some talk of crowdfunding a buyout and giving tumblr to the users, that hinges on PornHub not being able to offer more money. And if PornHub wants tumblr badly enough, they will.

So, did y'all back up your tumblogs before the site started blocking archival efforts?..

I think I'll just delete everything by myself before it could happen.

Personally I'd hold off until we get a confirmation either way...but I also don't have a lot of faith in PornHub NOT getting tumblr (unless Verizon reacts with "ew porn" and turns 'em down). :/

If I got it correctly Verizon is a telco/media property, right? Anyway, I still don't know how to think about all this (all my mental resources are on EU election and whoa is that going to be a mess). I think I'll stick with my "well'see" approach, by now. I might change it if things get bad -- same as I ultimately erased all my Livejournal entries.

I've checked Arstechnica and there's too an article about the buyout proposal, I'll read it tomorrow (it's bedtime here and my English comprehension is, ehm, quite sub-optimal at the moment ^^; ).

It's just a stating of fact articles, I was hoping for a op/ed -- some of the journalist there are quite good on it. The comments aren't particularly nasty too.

Yes, JKHP is still up... but updated to more than ten years ago, haha :D
I might give it a refresh, after I've finished my "professional" one (which I should have finished long ago but, ehm... stuff keep getting in the way).

Read the Ars Technica article the other day, too; 'twas hoping for them to delve into why this would be a monumentally bad idea, but at least a few of the comments do. Now, the comments on the Techcrunch article (except one) are some of the most obvious corporate sockpuppets I've ever seen...

I only ever blogged stuff on tumblr that I also posted elsewhere, so I see no need to back it up. I honestly might as well just delete it, I think I have all of one follower who's not a spambot anyway.

I'm not sure I have the guts to delete mine, at least not yet. There's a lot of things there I'd prefer to leave publicly accessible (and not make anyone scramble to update links).

I'll keep my Tumblr account for now. I like following several Hobbit/Marvel/Undertale posts that are still active. But if PornHub does get ahold of Tumblr I'm deleting my account.

Thankfully I have saved everything I have written and I have been debating whether I should post it all on Archive of Our Own.

I'm glad your art is easy to find on Deviant Art. I just wish the website didn't have an agenda to fry my old computer every time I try to get on it. (Have to use work's laptop instead.)

Cross-posting everything to AO3 would be a good idea, I think (especially since your blog's still marked as "sensitive").

For what it's worth, I think dA become more usable for me after I got UBlock Origin. XD If your old computer can run that, site performance might improve a little?
