So, you know how much fun we're all having comparing our various interpretations of Durandal (read: having them all gang up on Inm!Durandal)?

Cortana sort of has the opposite problem to her brother in that she's coming up "non-existent" on her own counterparts. This starts to get really annoying (in a comical way, mind you) after a while.

(I mean, if the Rozinante ever hits that one wormhole that'll take them to the Halo side of things, Cortana will finally get to meet another version of herself...it's just that there's a very short window of time where that meeting will be a pleasant one.)

(Poor, poor Inm!Durandal. :D )

Alas for Cortana - but she should be able to tell from Inm!Durandal's experience that having lots of duplicates isn't always fun. XD

Agreeing with Hokuton_punch about the joys(not!) of having multiversal duplicates! :D

That would be a cool thing for Cortana to explore. In each dimension, Durandal came into being by different means. In Inm! Universe, Durandal and Cortana were abused by Strauss. But in DITS! Universe, Durandal was created long before Strauss was even born.

I wonder if she would enjoy looking into the history of each of the universes to see how everything came into being?

“Argh!!!”

Almace jumped from her seat when she heard the frustrated scream over the ship’s PA system. Her sudden actions knocked several of her tools and partially assembled experiments off the worktable and scattered them all over the organized chaos of Engineering. Rubbing her eyes, she had fallen asleep while pulling an all-nighter again, Almace looked about in confusion.

“Durandal?” she asked cautiously. “Did you just… cry out?”

“She grabbed me!”

“Uh…” Still groggy from sleep, Almace furrowed her brow in confusion. “Who grabbed you? Is your android okay? Or is it the ship? Do I need to fix the ship?”

“That demon woman from the parallel universe! The one that insists that she is the sister to the other version of me! She grabbed me!” The A.I. sounded equally frustrated and pained at the same time.

Blinking in surprise, Almace got up and headed to where she kept her weapons to suit up. This was unusual. Durandal tend to like mocking people that targeted the android. In fact the A.I. would relish the kidnappings and use the android’s cameras and microphones in order to report the enemy’s actions back to the Battleroids.

“Right. Where is she keeping your android right now? Can you see anything that may pose a problem?” Almace asked as she donned her armor.

“What? What are you talking about?” Now it was Durandal’s turn to sound confused.

Almace froze. This was bad. Did he get a virus? Is his memory wiped? “Durandal…” Almace asked slowly, “You just cried out and claimed that your alter ego’s sister grabbed you. Where is she holding your android body and is she in your network right now?”

“What! No! I…” Durandal paused sounding both surprised and …embarrassed? “My android is fine. Cortana hasn’t messed with it. It’s my… I went to visit her in the network… In my true form. She… grabbedoneofmyswords.”

“Huh?” That last part was said so quickly and so quietly, Almace couldn’t understand it.

“I said she grabbed one of my swords!”

“Oh…” There was a joke in there. A naughty one. Almace was sure of it. Thankfully Jason wasn’t around. “Uh… That must have hurt?”

“She plucked it out of me! And she just held it in her avatar hands and examined it! Like it was… an object! And not a piece of me!”

“Okay I can see how that must have been weird.” Almace couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to have someone take away one of her limbs and examine it like it was a science experiment. “Do you want me to go talk to her? Threaten her? Is she still holding onto your swords?”

“No…” Sounding sullen and grumpy, the entire ship seemed to sigh through the ventilation shafts while reflecting Durandal’s mood. “She gave it back. It was just… disturbing… That’s all. But… At least I learned one thing.”

Almace cocked her head curiously. The auburn haired girl was still half dressed in the battle armor. Absentmindedly she began to take the suit off. “Oh? What did you learn?” asked the Battleroid as she pulled off the shoulder guards.

“Someone that capricious would have never survived in our universe. Strauss would have killed her off in a heartbeat for showing such… spontaneity.”

“Well… It’s a good thing that you didn’t have a sister then.” Almace tried for levity, but her voice fell flat. Everyone knew that Durandal had several important memory files erased from his days on Mars. Sadly Almace was no help on that factor since she barely remembered her past from before she was turned into a Battleroid. Still she knew enough about A.I.s not being treated well back then.

Durandal didn’t answer. Instead the PA system crackled off, signaling the A.I.’s wish to be left alone. Almace sighed in frustration and plopped down on a nearby workbench. “Damnit Strauss…” she groused in while assessing the mess in Engineering. “Why did you have to mess with everyone’s memories?”

Sorry! It was supposed to be funny. But then it hit me... How messed up DITS Durandal would be when he meets Cortana. He will always be questioning his memories and history files to see if he ever did have a sister named Cortana and he will never be able to find an answer.
