Who's up for yet more vampire AU blather?
I've started work on a big 'ol doodle dump (plan is to traditionally ink everything and colour it in PS); not every idea I have for these things tends to make it to paper, but at minimum I want to have all the heroes interact in some manner. Things already drawn include angsting over whether or not vampires have souls, the requisite Vince/Durandal, and bear!Alex.
Not yet drawn: an idea for a non-vamp character.
You know how some works will casually throw in a character who's alien to the setting and let the audience fill in the gaps themselves? While making dinner tonight (read: heating up a Hormel thing), my brain went, "Dr. Frankenstein, but in a Marathon AU".
Vediovis Hospital is one of Tharsis's most advanced medical facilities; in the vamp AU it's also the workplace of one Dr. Frankenstein. Her pallid, discoloured skin, bolts in the neck, random stitched-on patches of differently-discoloured skin, and occasional glimpses of some kind of symbiotic length of alien worm flesh are all rather suspicious--and if you ask her, Frankie will gladly inform you that she's a zombie.
And that's all the explanation you'll get, because "those records aren't for public viewing". What records are publicly available indicate that Dr. Frankenstein's been around for ages, and shows no sign of slowing down. Generally regarded as brilliant, but with a faulty brain-to-mouth filter as a result of primarily examining corpses and getting her wires crossed when interacting with live patients.
Vampires befuddle and frustrate Frankie because some aspects of their existence seem to involve actual magic (or some force very close to it) and her worldview leaves no room for things like that. (It never occurs to Frankie that "vampire magic" is an entire new field she could be studying.)
I'm thinking that the main party rushes into Vediovis one night for whatever reason and Frankie manages to unwittingly offend every one of them. Then Durandal mentions Strauss and Frankie gets real quiet...
