Vampire AUs are still cool, right?
Jan. 10th, 2019 12:48 amProbably brought on by thinking about my Marathon/Castlevania crossover,
piinutbutter's demon AU, and this Marathon/BloodNet fusion idea I had years ago.
At the risk of "this was just supposed to be a thought experiment", the gist I have in mind is this: Ordinary (or seemingly ordinary) human Vince Callahan gets set upon one night by a vampire that he ends up overpowering. Said vampire is Durandal, who's very annoyed over being denied some extra plasma but is oddly okay with the prospect of having to stay in Vince's apartment.
Durandal talks a big game, going on at length about vampire society and his lofty place in it, but eventually Vince deduces that something's not right--if Durandal speaks so highly of this society, why isn't he making any effort to escape? Turns out he's marked for death for the crime of attempting to usurp the Prince, and if the headhunters catch up to him, it'll be a bloodbath. But hey, Vince is a no-name hacker living in an apartment complex; surely no hostile vampires will think to look there, right?..
Aaaand I'm already thinking more about this than I should:
* The three alternate forms vampires can take are megabats, direwolves, and giant spiders; Durandal's alternate form is a slightly smaller bat.
* Like in World of Darkness, there are Princes (and Princesses, probably) who control their respective regions, and in this case there's probably a vampire civil war brewing on Tharsis on top of its human misery. Don't know yet if I'll borrow the concept of clans, though.
* Said human misery is probably not as intense as it was in Inmortalitas, but yannow--Strauss has to be in the background somewhere...
* Durandal's actually pretty fragile for a vampire, setting Vince up for a shock when he inevitably goes up against a sturdier one.
ETA: The rabbit hole widens...
