Mundane updates
Jun. 29th, 2019 07:36 pm* Apparently, years of my neck giving me incredibly frequent vertigo/arterial sclerosis could have been averted if I'd started regularly lifting one-pound weights earlier. Now that my back muscles can actually support my neck, I've been having far fewer moments of "oh God I'm gonna keel over".
* ThinkGeek is having a big "we'regoing under moving" sale, and our first order arrived a few days ago; I got three Power Rangers Legacy figures, that Megaman 11 Blockman figure set, and a Funko Pop of the Thirteenth Doctor. All of these things are now listed as "out of stock", as are most of the other products on the site (including a Gundam kit I didn't see before, grumble curse mutter).
* I'm borrowing/using a Win10 laptop, because I wanted to try out Win10 without upgrading my main comp and potentially messing things up. (The main draw of Win10 for me is Cortana, though I haven't figured out yet if this laptop has a mic or not) So far it's working fine, though trying to install tablets took...effort.
I have two Wacom/Bamboo tablets; the older one is what I use on my main comp, and the newer one refused to work consistently. So after getting the laptop I thought, "hey, I'll put the other Bamboo on there and finally get some use out of it!" And I did, but only after struggling with the pen pressure on it AND another tablet not working, plus finding out that my main tablet is too old for Win10 to bother with. Mom suggested I try installing the drivers again under compatibility mode, which finally fixed things (despite what Wacom's site implied, it was expecting Windows 8, not 10).
* Checked out Jillybean's old fics on halo.bungie.org after learning about them. (I don't know if it's possible to link to the results of author searches on HBO, so go there and search for "jillybean" in the fic section. Apparently they were also on ff.net, but I've no idea if they're still up)
Now, Jillybean didn't like Cortana (and really didn't like Dr. Halsey), so I was expecting things to get painful--but as it turns out, Cortana isn't treated too badly, at least in "Halos and Rings". A little ditzy, maybe, but not to character-assassination levels.
"Halos and Rings" starts off as a semi-adaptation of Halo: CE from the perspective of UNSC mechanic Daxia Ring; by the fifth chapter it moves into pre-H2 continuation territory, with all the hindsight-oddities that come with it. (For example, the Covenant still find Earth--maybe there were previews in '03 that made this clear?--but most of the action takes place in North America and Siberia) The writing isn't the most professional, but it's pretty compelling, so I'd recommend checking it out.
* Finally, my sleep schedule is once again the opposite of what it should be. :U
