Who remembers oekaki boards? Those things used to be a staple of online space, but then every browser started blocking Java for (legit) security concerns and oekakis swiftly died off; there seem to be only a handful left, and most aren't active.

Well, the other day I got nostalgic for oekaki again and went on my fiftieth "how do I make this work/run it independently somehow" search, which brought me to CheerpJ, a Chrome/Chromium extension that allows you to run Java applets without actually putting that security hole on your computer. Previous Java-running extensions didn't work for me, but this one does, and now I can access the applet without wrestling with IE8.

I recently posted something on 2draw.net (and cross-posted it to dA), one of the few remaining and active oekaki boards out there. Will CheerpJ lead to a wide-spread revival? I kinda doubt that--oekaki boards are very much a "personal site" thing and not a whole lotta folks run those anymore--but it's nice to be able to do this again.
