Yet more vamp AU blather
Feb. 16th, 2019 02:20 amInspired by Juzo-kun's vamp AU post, and in lieu of new art, I'mma talk about things some more.
* Durandal's first real task upon being brought back to Vince's apartment (and being fed multiple cans of chili so that he didn't keel over from hunger) was to assume bat form and eat all the moths. Durandal protested that this was beneath him, but his only other options would have involved even more menial chores. Vince's apartment saw a sharp decrease in moth activity.
* Vampires can eat normal food here, though it's unwise to go too long without blood (varies by individual). Durandal had to make do with a lot of bland stuff while part of Blood Moon, and was secretly happy to share Vince's food; he prefers eggs and sausages (particular maple-tinted ones), as well as putting the former on burgers. Conversely, Durandal doesn't like seafood.
* While drinking blood is kinda necessary for vampires to stay in good health, actually consuming human flesh is a grave taboo like it is among actual humans.
* Vampires have blood in their veins that's chemically distinct from other living beings'. It tends not to react well to sunlight; for most vamps, staying out in the sun too long will lead to internal pains, then bleeding from the face, then organ failure--and no, neither the shade nor the sky being cloudy/overcast will save you; the vampire's only recourse is to find a dark area indoors and wait for the sun to set. The most powerful vamps, like Romulus and Remus, are technically daywalkers, but even they prefer nighttime, as sunlight makes them sluggish.
* There are two separate progenitor vampires, Dracula and Carmilla; no one's really sure whether they were born vampire or human, or what arcane ritual was required to turn them if the latter, but they're understood to be the most powerful vamps in existence. Carmilla's not interested in vampire or human politics and lives mostly in seclusion with her servant; Dracula, on the other hand, had to be sealed off. Were he to break free, he would bring about literal hell on Mars, and it's been a long time since anyone checked the seal...
* To put not too fine a point on it, Vince and Durandal get intimate often, partially in response to their chronic loneliness. Gets a bit awkward when Laura starts tagging along.
* If there's any were-entities besides Alex, they'd probably be the remaining second-gen battleroids. Hathor, Marcus, Kurt, Cyrille, Isabel, Connor, and Janis all became imposing, majestic wolves...and June became a fluffy bunny rabbit. (Specifically a Flemish giant, which still isn't a wolf.) Strauss wasn't happy with that, and ordered the werewolves to devour her; they all tried to rip his throat out instead.
Unlike Alex, their transformations are voluntary, but they lack access to blood arts, as they escaped before Strauss could experiment on them further.
* The grimoire that Strauss used to create were-entities was none other than the Necronomicon, which Durandal ends up swiping later on. Unfortunately, Durandal has no idea how to use it, and it's not a tome for amateurs...
* There's a freaky, Giger-esque structure out in the middle of the Medusa Desert that no one who can make it that far can enter. Vince and co. end up fleeing there when things get really bad, and they're able to get inside with greater ease than is normal.
